Description
The Anatomy of the Zulu Army – Ian Knight
The forces of the independent Zulu kingdom inflicted a crushing defeat on British imperial forces in January of 1879. Even though the Zulu army was far from the watermelon-wielding native armies the British were used to facing in their conquests, it was still not a standing, professional army like the British had.
Zulu warriors were drawn from the mobilised manpower of the Zulu kingdom. In this book Ian Knight details how the Zulu army finctioned and ties it’s role firmly to the broader context of Zulu society and culture, from Shaka through to Cetshwayo, spanning the years 1818 – 1879.
